BBC Scotland News manipulated the indyref findings on the Russia Report Featured

Written by

It's really starting to look like BBC Scotland News is just a Tory propaganda mouthpiece.

A thread by MSM_Monitor on Twitter:

A thread exposing how BBC Scotland manipulated the findings of the 'Russia Report' to suppress criticisms of the UK Govt and manufacture fake news linking Russia to the 2014 Indyref campaign.

Page 1 of 12. Let's first recap what the report actually said.

1. The UK Govt made no attempt to find out if Russia had interfered in the EU Referendum.

2. Russian cash has flooded into UK politics.

3. There was some evidence Russia tried to discredit the 2014 Indyref result. BBC Scotland covered the report by all-but ignoring its main findings regarding the EU Referendum & Russian cash in British politics. The broadcaster also falsely claimed the report had concluded there was evidence Russia had interfered in the 2014 Indyref campaign. Here is what the report actually said about the 2014 Indyref. It mentions 'Russian campaigns in relation to the Scottish independence referendum'. A footnote explains this relates to Russian media implying 'irregularities in the vote'. It says nothing about the pre-vote campaign.

Evidence

The day before the report was published the UK Govt briefed the media that the report contained evidence of Russian involvement in the 2014 Indyref campaign. We know this because Herald journalist Hannah Rodger revealed it. The briefing claim was a lie.

Evidence

BBC Scotland, instead of reporting what the report actually said about the 2014 Indyref, reported what the UK Govt had said. Multiple reporters pushed the lie that Russia had interfered in the 2014 Indyref and had tried to influence the result. (youtu.be/BU8YbZvtHko)

As we have shown, the report had said no such thing. Indeed, SNP MP Stuart Hosie, who sits on the Westminster committee that published the report, made it clear the report was referring to the period after the 2014 Indyref. (youtu.be/xft9oip9rE8)

Stuart Hosie appeared on STV News but he was missing from BBC Scotland's flagship news programme 'Reporting Scotland'. A rather odd omission considering Hosie was a Scottish MP who actually sat on the committee that published the report.

Reporting Scotland did though find time to include a Scottish politician. Scottish Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser demanded an inquiry into possible Russian interference in the 2014 Indyref. (youtu.be/DhWyoXyueOE)

Whilst the 'Russia Report' made no suggestion of Russian interference in the 2014 Indyref, it didn't mean there was no interference. Russian president Vladimir Putin had intervened in January 2014 after the BBC sent Andrew Marr to Sochi to interview him. (youtu.be/ics0a1iTgxg)

Putin's intervention was reported to have followed a plea from UK Prime Minister David Cameron for help. Yet despite Murdo Fraser demanding an inquiry into Russian interference in the 2014 Indyref, this clip of Putin did not appear on Reporting Scotland.

Mention of the Putin interview did appear on STV News, along with other comments from the committee that Reporting Scotland failed to mention.

BBC Scotland didn't act as a public service, it acted as an agent of the UK Govt. (youtu.be/KjouQnZSx9Y)

Is it time for the BBC to scrap the TV license and to convert to Pay-2-View?
